Day 1: Happy Birthday!

Bare as Nature Intended
I caught nearly all the meconium. No need to scrape it off the tush or off the diapers except for one prefold. Pees were hit and miss. We are just getting to know each other. I don’t expect to be perfect and I expect to get spit up and drooled on and peed on. It’s not an issue. Just comes as part of the package.

Labor was a fast 5 to 5 1/2 hours with a nuchal hand. Understandably I was rather tired having made the mistake of not sleeping early on. It was a home birth so I was comfortable and free to do as I wanted, when I wanted. A new baby can hold an impressive amount of poo. I remember holding this wee little thing that I thought was the most gorgeous creature on earth tentatively and nervously over a prefold and watching and wondering when it was going to end! The stool kept flowing and just when you thought “that must be it” — blerp — there was more. The rest of the early days are really a blur. Cloth prefolds and flats were used very generously. The little victories were enjoyed in between trying to sleep and to get to know the new demanding creature.

You caught the sticky black stuff!!! Well done! Man, I missed it all with this one, I was really determined, but it was sneaky stuff! Just put her little tush under the sink and scrubbed it off. By day 2 or 3, we were right on track
