Our Journey Begins

This blog is derived from a personal journal that was begun in September 2009 and is still ongoing in 2011.  Notes are kept month by month and each post is dated on the 21st.

Colored notations at the end of each entry are “in hindsight” — observations made to provide information and clarity.   Pictures and other side notes will be added later.

See the Frequently Asked Questions (Diaper Free?  What’s that About) page for more EC info.

I am a 37 year old first time mom who works part time.   I support and practice home birth, baby led solids, baby wearing, co-sleeping, breastfeeding beyond the first year, and gentle parenting.   I am still learning too!

  1. lovely blog. I really enjoy your style of writing. BTW, we found #2 easier to EC than our first, lets hope #3 follows suit.

  2. First of all I love your blog. You’re a great writer with amazing insight. There are parts of your stories that I swear you’re looking in the windows of my house. I saw a post you left on diaperfreebaby on facebook and had to read more I was hooked. It’s like a tv series you never want to end. Only on month 7 so I’m happy I have more to read!

    • Thank you for the compliment on my writing. I’ve always enjoyed penning things for myself, but I’m really glad you are enjoying the miniseries 🙂 I can’t believe that we are coming up on two years. It goes by so fast. I’m glad I kept a blog because things become a blur after a while!

  3. It really gives me an inside look at what other mothers go through practicing EC. I know every child is different but it gives me an idea of what’s to come!

  4. I love your work, Mama! Amazing perseverance and tenacity. And, wow, thanks for spotlighting my work!…I’m *blush* honored. Looking forward to reading it all step by step. Hugs!

    • Thanks! I’m he only “odd bird” who potty learned against the current cultural norm that I know in RL among friends and family (same for Baby Led Weaning/Solids, BF longer than 1 year, and homebirth). Though people are always ooing and ahhing and wish for diapers to end, I find that inevitably they don’t believe THEY can do it or that it takes some arbitrary “long time and toil” in their head and ultimately don’t do anything except wait longer and do it the “normal” way.

  5. I love your blow by blow commentary on EC! Gave it a shot myself with first child, but not knowing anyone who tried it before, the attempt petered out. Maybe with the next?

  6. Happy New Year! I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your support of my blog. I have learned so much from reading your blog and frequently refer other mom’s interested in EC your way. I was recently nominated for the Versatile Blogger award and now I would like to pass that nomination onto you. http://inherchucks.com/2012/01/01/another-blogging-milestone/. Thank you for sharing your experiences with EC and giving our community a voice 🙂

  7. Amazing blog – just subscribed! My little guy is 10 months old and loves his potty – we started ECing about a month and a half ago – it’s going well so far!
Can’t wait to take some time to read some back posts!
